Flu Vaccine FAQ - 2011- 2012 season
When should I start calling for a vaccine?
Call now to schedule
- Flu Mist is only for children over 2years old
without chronic illness.
- Infants under 6 months old are too young for any flu
vaccine.
What is in it? Is there a separate HINI?
This year's "seasonal" flu vaccines (Mist or Shot)
includes a strain ofHINl, H3N2, and a type B. It has the
same variants as last year, but it is recommended everyone
obtain a dose this year to ensure appropriate immunity.
How many doses does my child need this year?
- Children who are 9 years and older will only need
ONE dose.
- For children under 9 years old, it varies.
- The first year he/she receives the flu vaccine, TWO
doses.
When can I schedule the second dose?
Schedule the second dose on your way out of the office.
My child needs other vaccines. Does it matter if they
are given on the same day or separate days?
- The flu vaccines may be given on the same day as any
other vaccine.
- If vaccines are to be given on different days, it
doesn't matter if giving the flu SHOT.
- If given on different days, the FluMIST must be 4
weeks separate from the Varivax (Chickenpox) or the MMR
(measles, mumps, rubella).
My child is on steroids. Does that affect the vaccine?
Only chronic, high doses of steroids impairs the antibody
response temporarily. Nebulized or inhaled steroids are
safe. Inform the administrator if your child is currently
taking steroids by mouth.
Does Insurance Pay?
Each is different so you will need to check with your
insurance.
What about the new Intradermal vaccine?
This is only licensed for 18 to 64 year oids. We will not
be offering any intradermal vaccine.
Thank You,

Attention Parents: School Forms
When our office has completed your school forms, it is a good idea for you to make a copy for your files. The immunization record will be up to date until your child gets another vaccination. The health
