Resistant Toilet Trainers

If your child is very resistant to toilet training here are some simple rules to follow:

  1. Back off!  Do not be a nudge. Gently remind them 2-3 times a day.  Take the pressure off them. When he/she begins to feel as if you do not care whether they are potty trained or not they will then surprise you .  Most of the time it is a control issue.
  2. Once they feel as if they are in total control they just might start using the potty on their own terms.
  3. Always check with your Pediatrician to make sure that your child is not constipated or holding on to their "poops" because it hurts to go potty.
  4. Occasionally resistive toilet trainers develop some irrational fear in their little heads.  One day when that fear abates they might attempt the potty thing. Good Luck.
